There are currently two professional journals that pertain specifically to school social work (with a 3rd in development). The good news is that there are some very excellent publications that are worth paying for. Unfortunately, access to the most current research almost always comes with a cost. There is a large amount of research being published that pertain to our profession and the students we serve. Those resources are great if you’re searching for an intervention for a particular client population, but what about the current research that contributes to our knowledge base. You need to pay attention to both the common aspects as well as the specific focus of the journal to which you are submitting your article.Last month I wrote an article about how to stay up-to-date with evidence-based interventions after leaving graduate school. While this blog is dedicated to social work discipline/ journals, the ways and methods remain the same for other disciplines too. Publishing an article with a high-quality journal needs to have a minimum standard in all aspects that the journal mentions in its scope and author guidelines. It focuses on social work articles from feminists’ points of view. Similarly, Affilia- Journal of Women and Social Work gives voice to the myriad ways that feminist praxis manifests in social work. It prioritises articles that incorporate and promote the perspectives of people with personal experiences of the issues being examined. For example, the British Journal of Social Work specifically focuses on voices and influence of people with lived experience of social work services. Your article should reflect on one or more of these aspects.īesides, do not forget to look at a journal’s specific focus.
